Rhythms of the Past: A Vintage Jazz Getaway

Experience the Jazz Era

Experience the Jazz Era at The Blackstone Hotel's Jazz Showcase Suite

This winter, The Blackstone Hotel invites guests to beat the post-holiday blues with a stay in the Jazz Showcase Suite. Inspired by the property’s former in-residence club, the Jazz Showcase, the hotel’s Presidential Suite is transformed into a cozy, nostalgic winter getaway.

A Legacy Woven with Jazz and Blues

The property’s connection to jazz dates to the 1950s, when The Blackstone was the preferred hotel for visiting jazz and blues musicians. According to Shirley Dixon Nelson, the daughter of blues great Willie Dixon, The Blackstone offered many attractive attributes for traveling musicians.

The musicians were fond of the guest rooms' large size and tall ceilings, the property’s South Loop address (conveniently located to nearby recording studios), and the hotel's "laid back atmosphere ." Nelson said that her father continued to stay at the Blackstone up until his death in 1992. "He just loved the history of the place.”

The Jazz Showcase Suite

Guests will be transported to the hotel’s jazz heyday when they book the lavish three-room luxury suite. Set the mood while listening to a library of records on a vintage record player, with albums from some of jazz’s most gifted – including Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, and the legendary Louis Armstrong. Visitors can channel inspiration from these famous names and try their hand at penning their own song at the room’s writing desk, complete with sheet music.

The suite boasts grand views of Grant Park and Lake Michigan from the opulent parlor room, which features a dining area seating eight, and is adorned with period-appropriate decor. Guests can indulge in our in-room Hot Chocolate Cart, complete with sweet toppings and take part in some (friendly) competition with board games. Adults looking for a bit stronger of a winter beverage can enjoy a “Make Your Own Old Fashioned” cocktail kit. Each drink pairs well with a Chocolate “Cigar” dessert, also available in-room.

Live Jazz and Exclusive Experiences

For visitors seeking to experience jazz live concerts, The Blackstone will provide 2 tickets to the nearby Jazz Showcase, which has relocated in the historic Dearborn station. Catch the genre’s hottest acts and get priority seating as a guest of The Blackstone. Cap off the visit by taking photos with a retro film camera (featuring a cameo from Armstrong “himself”) to commemorate the historical stay.
